Foundations and Ethics of SIP

This course explores the origins and foundations of spirituality and religion and their interconnectedness with other dimensions of human experience. The course begins preparing therapists to recognize how they can ethically incorporate spirituality and religion in the work of psychotherapy  and to conceptualize their clients' needs and resources.

Course Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the benefits of integrating spirituality and religion in psychotherapy when done well
2. Define a holistic understanding of humans: bio-psycho-social-spiritual
3. Summarize the historical relationship between psychotherapy and spirituality and religion
4. Recognize different models for integrating spirituality and religion in psychotherapy
5. Summarize the ethical principles that guide how therapists integrate spirituality and religion in therapy
6. Comprehend how therapists can ethically draw upon theri own spirituality as a resource
